Privacy Policy

Your service record is not a data product. Here's exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

1. Information We Collect

  • Service Profile — When you register, we collect your name, email address, branch of service, years served, and discharge status to match you with the right benefits.
  • Identity Verification — For benefits that require it, we may collect your Social Security Number, DD-214, or other service documents. These are encrypted at rest and never stored in plaintext.
  • Device & Usage Data — We automatically collect device identifiers, IP addresses, browser type, and interaction logs to improve the app and detect fraud.
  • Optional Connections — You may optionally link your eBenefits or VA.gov account to enable claims tracking. We access only the data necessary for that feature.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Benefit Matching — Your service profile is used solely to identify and rank the benefits you qualify for. It is never used for advertising targeting.
  • Application Assistance — To pre-populate VA forms and application links with your relevant information, saving you time.
  • Service Improvement — Aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us improve the accuracy of our benefit matching engine.
  • Communication — We send transactional emails (app updates, new benefits you qualify for). You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.

3. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your data. Full stop. Your service record, personal information, and usage data are never sold or rented to third parties.
  • Benefits Partners — When you choose to act on a benefit (e.g., request a VA home loan quote), we share only the information necessary for that transaction, with your explicit consent.
  • Service Providers — We use vetted third-party services for hosting, analytics, and communications. All providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.
  • Legal Requirements — We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

4. Data Security

  • Encryption — All sensitive data (SSN, DD-214, service records) is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit.
  • Access Controls — Only employees with a documented need can access personally identifiable information. All access is logged and audited.
  • No Advertising Network — We are not connected to Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, or any ad tracking network. Your military service is not a data product.
  • Breach Notification — In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours via email.

5. Data Retention

  • Active Accounts — Your data is retained for as long as your account is active.
  • Account Deletion — Request deletion at any time through the app. All personal data is purged within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
  • Usage Logs — Server and access logs are retained for 90 days and then deleted.
  • Anonymized Analytics — Aggregate, anonymized data may be retained indefinitely to improve our benefit matching accuracy.

6. Your Rights

  • Access — Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you via privacy@braveveteran.com.
  • Correction — Update inaccurate information directly in the app under Settings → Profile.
  • Deletion — Delete your account at any time. We will process the request within 30 days.
  • Portability — Request a machine-readable export of your data at any time.
  • To exercise any right, contact privacy@braveveteran.com. We aim to respond within 5 business days.

7. Children's Privacy

  • Brave Veteran is intended for veterans 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact privacy@braveveteran.com and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the effective date above and notify you by email if the changes are material. Continued use of Brave Veteran after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
